Hunts

Located in the middle of prairie pothole region of Manitoba, the Russell/Foxwarren area is the main staging area for waterfowl during their migration South on the Central Flyway. Our area has a large number of permanent and seasonal water-bodies which are interspersed with farmland where both grain and legume (pea) crops are grown in abundance. Thousands of Ducks, lesser Canada, snow geese, blue geese, speckle bellies and Big Canada geese stop over during their flight south to feed on our agricultural fields during the day and roost on the many water bodies of the area at night. The combination of excellent wetland habitat, vast grain-fields and Central flyway migrants has made our waterfowl hunting considered the best in North America. Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl both have a strong presence in this area conserving much of the wetlands, and nesting habitat.

Over the last 20 years, more and more populations of Canada geese and multiple species of ducks call this area home all summer long. Damage to crops in the fall by feeding geese and ducks is common and we along with our neighbours need your help to control these numbers!

Three Day Hunts

We will take a max of 4 hunters at a time and offer 3 day hunts. Three-day hunts include 3 morning and 2-afternoon hunts.

Mornings are usually spent goose hunting and afternoon/evenings are for ducks. You will be hunting pre-scouted fields every morning for the entire trip. Scouting is THE most important aspect of any successful hunt and we take great pride in putting our clients on the X (where the birds are). Our field hunts primarily consist of cut wheat, barley or peas, irresistible to geese and ducks as this is a major source of energy for their migration. Our field hunts target Big Canada geese and will be out of the comfort of our layout blinds and our decoys. That being said, we often get a chance at mallards hitting the spread just before the geese. 

We prefer to duck hunt on small ponds or sloughs where ducks come for water during feeding. It gives us a chance to use our retrievers and we feel this is what duck hunting is all about! Our clients do not have to worry about how deep the water is or how muddy it is. We set and gather all decoys and of course retrieve all game.  Hunting ducks this way does not disturb their roost and keeps birds in our area for a prolonged period of time. For those that are unable at all or really prefer field duck hunting, we can accommodate this request also.

The backbone to any great hunt is knowledge of the land and your prey. Owning and farming our land gives us a huge advantage over our competitors and offers consistent success with both our field and water shoots due to our intimate knowledge of the land and extensive, nonstop scouting.
